Benita Takes Home Rising Star Award

For Indonesian Hotel and Resort Management student, Benita Nathania Bunawan, 2017 will end on an extremely high note. After attending the annual BMW Hotelier Awards in Macau earlier this month, Benita was awarded to inaugural Rising Start Award. As one of five student finalists from across Asia, Benita was a clear winner in the judging panels eyes.

The annual awards night recognises outstanding individuals’ professional excellence across the hospitality sector in Asia, and broadens the horizons for younger generations looking to enter the industry. Finalists for the Rising Star Award were selected from leading universities across the region, including Les Roche and Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

In addition to the rising star award, 23 award winners were announced on the night for their outstanding achievements. 2017 saw applications from over 70 different brands across 14 different countries.

For the past two years Benita has been studying with BMIHMS at Torrens University at Suzhou Campus, in China. Originally from Jakarta, Indonesia, Benita has continually excelled in her studies and impressed her employers whilst completing both industry placements.

Suzhou Campus Director, Fergus MacDougall said, “It brings an immense sense of pride and joy to the whole team at BMIHMS Suzhou Campus to congratulate Benita on her receiving the Rising Star Award at the 2017 Hotelier Awards.

“Benita has been incredible from day one. Her passion for hospitality and service has been inspiring to fellow students and the whole team at Suzhou Campus. She displays an outstanding level of engagement across practical programs and her academic studies.”

Currently completing her final placement as a Management Trainee at Centara Hotels & Resorts in Phuket, Thailand, Benita is set to go from strength to strength as she continues her career in the hotel and hospitality industry.

Describing herself as adaptable, compassionate and lively. Benita says, “I perceive every opportunity as a chance to grow and gain a better insight of the industry… I intend on pursuing my career in guest relations as I am passionate about providing guests some memorable experiences.

“Honesty, respect, and sincerity have always been my principle. I do believe these are the key factors for a good relationship, either with my colleagues or my guests.”

Taking home the Rising Star Award accolade will allow Benita the opportunity to undertake an internship of her choice in one of the top five-star hotels worldwide. An opportunity that many would dream of.
