The True Story of how a Sydney student of Hospitality Management became a leader in the Asia Pacific Region

It is with great pleasure that Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School announces the next speaker in our Leadership Speaker Series, Mr Peter Tudehope.

Before we tell you about the accolades and achievements of Mr Tudehope, we would like to first start by sharing one very important fact. He started in the same position as you. He too started his career as a student of Hospitality Management in Sydney. And just like you, he commenced his journey in the industry one role at a time.

In this edition of our Leadership Speaker Series, we hear from Mr Tudehop, the General Manager of the Radisson Plaza Hotel, Sydney, and Regional Manager for Radisson. In this session, he will be discussing the topic of ‘Hotel Leadership and Change in the Asia Pacific Region’. With change a-foot in every industry – in every corner of the globe, it is now more than ever that you must be agile, flexible and forever-ready for development and change.

His first role was with InterContinental Hotel in Sydney and in that five year period, his career was ignited. While Mr. Tudehope is now an award-winning General Manager of Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney, he has personally experienced the impact of change, including its many challenges and its many positives. Peter is celebrating over 10 years with the hotel, having been appointed to the role on 12 September 2005. Peter was also appointed Regional Manager Australia and Pacific of Radisson Hotel Group, Asia Pacific on 1 January 2009. He was also the Director of Operations & Services for Radisson Hotel Group Asia Pacific which led to being charged with the growth and development of the group’s brands with a particular focus on Radisson.

Peter also spent 12 years with The Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney, as the Executive Assistant Manager. Here he managed the operational and financial environments and steered the hotel through a number of phases including asset management, receivership, change of management company, change of ownership and also a major refurbishment that involved closing the hotel for four months. This period also took Peter to Las Vegas and Washington as part of the pre-opening teams for those Four Season hotels.

The list of awards and accolades Mr Tudehope has received are extensive and are a testament to his experience and knowledge. Such appointments/awards include Chairman of the Accommodation Board for Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA), Australasian Hotelier of the Year award at the HM Awards in September 2014 and Esprit General Manager of the Year in 2009. He also won the following awards for the Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney:

  • Trip Advisor Award of Excellence 2014 & 2013
  • TAA Awards for Outstanding Community Service and Achievement, AHA (NSW) Redeveloped Hotel of the Year in 2011
  • Carlson Hotel of the Year Asia/Pacific in 2010
  • Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award in 2008
  • World Travel Awards, Australia’s Leading Business Hotel in 2008.
