A lot can happen in 12 months, and for one BMIHMS at Torrens University graduate that couldn’t be truer! Amber Hogg graduated last March with a Bachelor of Business majoring in International Event Management, and is already achieving so much this early in her career.
Amber is currently a Catering & Events Executive at the Hyatt Regency. Located on Sydney’s iconic Darling Harbour, this property is a popular destination for the discerning leisure traveler, business traveler, weddings and corporate events. We caught up with Amber early one morning before her busy day commenced, discussing what the past twelve-months have given her. Amber shared what she has achieved, and how BMIHMS has helped her to pursue her dream career – event management.
Prior to graduating, Amber was working as a Catering & Events Coordinator at Four Points by Sheraton, now she is a Catering & Events Executive at the Hyatt Regency, at the same property. How does that work? Shortly after graduating Amber’s property went through a rebrand and refurbishment to become Hyatt Regency. Amber spoke to us about how this was an amazing learning curve for her and a great opportunity to be part of a rebrand.
Admitting that the transition was not easy, but what was learned from the experience is invaluable, Amber says that she is proud of her achievements to date and is continually inspired by what is possible in the hospitality industry.
Touching on more about her role as an events professional, the joy and satisfaction that she has each day are what keeps Amber striving to make each event unique, memorable and exactly what the client is looking for.
When asked what philosophies have stayed with Amber from her time at BMIHMS, she responded with “You are your brand”. Elaborating, she said ‘how you dress and present yourself, and the way that you carry yourself and interact with others all contribute to who you and your brand are’.
Amber’s journey all the way from Swan Hill in regional Victoria to a waterfront hotel in the city has been one that has seen her take up so many opportunities that she would not have had if she had chosen another pathway. Having already worked in the UK and interstate on her industry placements, and continually learning since graduating, Amber is definitely on a trajectory to an amazing career.
This is Amber’s story to date… we look forward to watching her grow, prosper, learn and achieve in the coming years.
