The Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS) at Torrens University is looking forward to welcoming Mr Jan Smits to its Leura Campus this Friday 24 February.
Jan Smits, CEO of the Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) for Asia, Middle East & Africa (AMEA), will be visiting BMIHMS’s Practical Learning Campus, touring the live-in, student operated simulated hotel campus. Alongside his tour, Jan will be meeting with members of the BMIHMS academic team and industry placement team. It is within this capacity that BMIHMS will continue to push the quality of their education and align their curriculum to meet industry requirements. With students working in real hotels as part of the BMIHMS industry placement program, it is imperative that students are prepared and well trained.
As a CEO for IHG, Jan is responsible for the operations and growth of one of the world’s largest hotel companies, with more than 5,000 hotels globally. His responsibilities are spread across AMEA.
With operations spanning over 40 countries, Jan oversees 270 properties across six globally renowned brands that range from luxury to select service. There are a further 150 properties under development. Jan leads a workforce of approximately 50,000 colleagues working in hotels, corporate offices and business support centres – a 24/7 network that welcomes more than 25 million guests every year.
“This is an incredible opportunity to meet with Jan and determine how we can best prepare our future hoteliers to meet the competitive industry requirements for graduates ” Manager Career Services, Lacey Hodgert remarks.
Our students are keen to learn, and I am hopeful that they will be able to impart some personal experience that will provide Jan with an insight into the minds of the next generation of future hoteliers.
This is Jan’s first trip to BMIHMS Leura Campus, coming after a visit to Sydney Campus in 2016 as part of the BMIHMS Leadership Speakers Series.
