Student Spotlight: Meet Nicholas Ang

Nicholas Ang, Masters of International Hotel Management

What made you decide to study at BMIHMS?
When I was deciding which hotel school to pursue my studies at, I was drawn to the fact that BMIHMS was ranked as the number one hotel management school in Australia and offered both undergraduate and post-graduate courses for any aspiring hotelier wanting to enter this exciting industry!

Having come from a completely different background for my undergraduate studies, it was important for me to choose a school that would be able to provide me with both the theoretical and practical knowledge of the hospitality industry. In doing so, this would allow me to understand both the operational and business aspect of hotels, and potentially accelerate my future career progression in the industry.

How are you finding it?
I love the fact that BMIHMS requires students to undertake a six-month industry placements through the connections the schools has with major hotel chains. The industry placements allows us to put into practice the skills learnt in the classroom, and at the same time gain an understanding of hotel operations, and also develop important networks with industry peers.

My own personal journey is testament to the opportunities that BMIHMS have provided me.

How so?
I am currently embarking on my six-month industry placement back home in Singapore with Marriott International, I would not have been able to secure this opportunity without the support and guidance of the school. Since the very start of the course, the lecturers and success coaches have been emphasizing the importance of the Three Pillar Approach, which are Professional and Personal Growth, Practical Skills Development, and Academic Achievement.

I am truly grateful and thankful for everything I have gained and the people that I have met throughout my time at BMIHMS!

And, what’s next install for you?
Ideally, I would like to grow my role at the Marriott, my long term goal is to work in Revenue Management.
