Careers in Hospitality

What does a career in hospitality really look like?

If you’re looking for a dynamic career with lots of variety, then you’ve come to the right place. Many people immediately think of waiters, bartenders, and kitchenhands when they hear the words hospitality management, but in reality these roles comprise just a small section of one of the world’s fastest growing industries.

Hospitality also encompasses careers in events, travel and tourism – so roles such as Hotel Manager, Event Coordinator, Wedding Planner, Travel Agent, Tour Operator and even Chief Financial Officer are just some of the many diverse opportunities that might come your way after completing a degree at BMIHMS.

The hospitality industry provides careers, not just jobs, and it needs strategic operational leaders to fill key managerial and decision–making roles.

The industry

Hospitality is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, and it doesn’t look like it will be slowing down anytime soon.

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (2012), by 2020 hospitality will represent 10% of total employment globally. This is equivalent to 1 in every 10 jobs, with each hotel employing an average of 16 people in management positions.

Most major international hotel and restaurant brands have a presence in Australia, not to mention the many boutique hotels, event management facilities, international events, internationally renowned restaurants, function centres and serviced apartments that operate here. From backpacker hostels to hatted restaurants and five star luxury resorts, there is no shortage of opportunities for
skilled hospitality professionals.
